About the Organization:
The Beacon of Hope Resource Center provides information, resources and support for Katrina-affected residents to accelerate their return to New Orleans and the rebuilding of their homes and communities.  From one small resource center created in a Lakeview resident’s home in late-2005, Beacon of Hope centers are now found at locations throughout the city.  Beacon of Hope has proven to be an effective resource in revitalizing New Orleans neighborhoods.

Project Description and Status:
Operation Kids supported Beacon of Hope’s expansion into the Gentilly community by providing funds for a new playground in the Mirabeau Gardens neighborhood.

$60,000

This project is fully funded and completed.

Beacon of Hope Resource Centers assist New Orleans homeowners to rebuild their homes while also providing a sanctuary to neighbors looking for a way back home. Founded by Doug and Denise Thornton after their home was badly damaged by the storm, Beacon of Hope has grown to include 11 offices in several New Orleans neighborhoods.

Beacon of Hope provides volunteers for large projects, while also assisting individual home and building owners rebuild their homes and yards and reclaim their neighborhoods. Thousands of New Orleans residents has received help from Beacon of Hope to return home.
