Since its inception in 1999, Operation Kids has raised, managed and dispersed more than $9 million to more than 85 effective children's charities in 50 states and 25 countries. Lives have been changed through your donations! Some examples include:
Martin and Gina, of Huntington, WV, were to spend the summer with their boys (ages 8 and 10) in a small apartment in Durham, NC, while they received a side-by-side cord blood transplants at Duke University Medical Center. They were one of 30 families facing critical medical crises and expenses in 2007 helped by donations from Operation Kids and its corporate partner XanGo through the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA).The Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce was able to move forward with a law enforcement sting, that resulted in the arrest of more than 15 online child predators as a result of generous donors at the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award Gala, honoring John Walsh.
830 families with children received assistance from Operation Kids supporters and its corporate partner XanGo through Catholic Community Services during the winter of 2007. These funds provided the families with meals, a place to stay, and important resources to help them get back on the path to self-sufficiency.More than 3,000 at-risk children in were benefited through the Forever Young Foundation as a result of donors who helped raise $850,000 at a special-edition Operation Kids Lifetime Achievement Award Gala, honoring Steve Young in 2006
Over 20,000 children in 23 countries were beneficiaries of Right To Play’s training and mentoring as a result of the $900,000 in donations given at the 2007 Operation Kids Lifetime Achievement Award Gala in Boston, Massachusetts honoring former Massachusetts First Lady Ann Romney.
An entire village in Ko Prah Thong, Thailand, was rebuilt in 2005 following the devastating tsunami in December 2004. Operation Kids, XanGo and foreign consultants from around Europe partnered on the project. Displaced families were and partner organizations hired families to rebuild their own homes, a community center, school and boat-building facility. 35 families and 65 children are now housed and self-sufficient.More than 4,000 life-changing surgeries were delivered to children worldwide by Operation Smile as a result of generous donors who helped raise $1 million at the 2005 Operation Kids Lifetime Achievement Award Gala, honoring Bill & Kathy McGee.
600 Lifestart kits with basic necessities were distributed to teens aging out of foster care in 2008-2009 and Christmas Box International was able to expand the Lifestart program to additional states through donations from thousands of donors through an online Operation Kids campaign.More than $1.8 million was raised by corporate and individual donors during this 2-year campaign with the Brees Dream Foundation, which resulted in:
- 25 students from New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School were able to complete summer science internships in 2008
- More than 2,000 students at 7 public schools in New Orleans received critical after-school classes, cultural and athletic opportunities, mentoring and tutoring services
- More than 370 students benefited from a much-needed outdoor athletic area, high level math programs, science and art classes at a public New Orleans high school.
- 95 children of low-income families in New Orleans now attend a completely rebuilt, state-of-the-art daycare center
- 22 youth sports teams in New Orleans will have a brand-new athletic field on which to play at Lusher Charter School – the field will be accessible to school, neighborhood and community athletic organizations.
