Drew Brees LogoAbout the Organization:
The New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School (Sci High), an open admissions public charter high school, offers a rigorous, lab-based education in science, math, and technology that prepares students to major in those programs at the college level.

Approved Project:
Outdoor Activity Area

Project Description and Status:
The school’s outside sports and recreation area was completely insufficient to meet the needs of a quality P.E. program. With funding from Operation Kids, drainage was improved, the courtyard repaved and relined, and new athletic equipment installed.  In addition, a much-needed outdoor lab area for science classes was restored.

Project Cost:
$60,000

Funds Still Needed:
This project is fully funded and completed.

The outdoor athletic area at New Orleans Science and Math High School (Sci High) was unpaved, dirty, and covered with debris when the school opened after Katrina.

School leaders’ immediate focus was getting classrooms and other inside facilities in working shape; the outside of the building would have to come later.

Thanks to the Operation Kids campaign, and a generous contribution from Xango, the basketball courts at Sci High have been completely repaired.

Volleyball is a big favorite of Sci High students.

The new outdoor athletic area at Sci High is large enough to accommodate several simultaneous activities.

The rebuild of the outdoor athletic area included a garden area for science classes.
